Vatsinidis Cave in Messinia is located near the village of Proastio, just off Kardamyli. It is an underwater cave of exceptional natural beauty, with two entrances protected by stone walls for the safety of the inhabitants who have taken refuge there.
The cave has two main chambers, each containing large pools of seawater, connected by a passageway. There are other smaller chambers, also with ponds.
The first chamber measures 31 x 66 meters, and is covered by a lake measuring 16 x 52 meters. A “light well” lets sunlight through, creating unique images. A lake passageway leads to the second chamber of Vatsinidis Cave, measuring 36 x 55 meters, which contains two lakes.
